Shared note | Mary was the daughter of Garrett DARDIS and Julie LEDWILL Mary arrived in Australia as a convict sentenced to 7 years for stealin g clothes. She was employed as a servant. She arrived on the ship "FORT H 2" from Ireland arriving sometime in 1830. It appears she had an earl ier conviction in1820 and appeared in court again in 1829 . Her physical description as a convict was: .Height - 5 feet 4 inches; C omplexion - Ruddy and freckled ; Hair - Brown; Eyes - Grey. General remarks - Small perpendicular tear left side o f upper lip. Mary married Convict William Gambell on 26th January 1835 in St. Mary' s Church in Sydney. On 7 October 1843, she received her Certificate of Freedom. She died on 25 Jujy 1873 after suffering from cancer of the womb. |
