| Shared note | Muriel was married to Jack Helm at her parent's home. The ceremon y was conducted by Pastor John Snape of the First Baptist Church. The Oakland Tribune newspaper described Muriel as "one of the most attra ctive of the younger girls", and the marriage as "a pleasant surprise" . Muriel was aged only 17 years. Her husband came from Los Angeles and that is where they lived after th e marriage. His parents were Gratz Wilson Helm and Ann Mildred Cannon. Muriel married for a second time to Edwin Hatch Mendenhall who was himse lf marrying for a second time. When Muriel died 21 August 1947, her husb and Edwin H. Mendenhall had died the previous December, 1946. Her obituary in the Oakland Tribune, 24 August 1947 page 34 reads MENDENHALL - In San Francisco, August 21, 1947. Muriel Lucille Mendenhal l, wife of the late Edwin H. Mendenhall; daughter of Mrs. Margaret E. an d the late Frederick W. Laufer; sister of Mrs. Florence E. Riley and gra ndmother of Eileen L. Bryan. A native of Oakland. Services Monday mornin g, August 25, at 10:30 o,clock, in the chapel of Albert Brown Company, 3 476 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland. |
